Together with Red Eléctrica (the TSO of the Spanish electricity system) and Elewit (the technology platform), both Redeia companies, we have developed ZEPAS, Zero Emission Portable Auxiliary Source, an efficient and environmentally friendly portable system that allows providing electricity supply for the auxiliary services of any substation directly from a high voltage line, dispensing with any generator set and, therefore, avoiding its emissions.
We have already successfully installed it in Red Eléctrica substations in Aguayo and Chucena.
An innovative solution for powering auxiliary services
The ZEPAS unit is a compact solution that uses electrical equipment commonly used in substations, such as Power Voltage Transformers (PVT or SSVT), as well as additional electrical equipment that guarantees quick installation and commissioning by integrating them into a platform with its auxiliary elements to facilitate road transport, loading and unloading maneuvers, and on-site installation without the need for auxiliary lifting equipment.
In short, it is a transportable and self-unloading mobile platform for our PVTs, equipment that combines the benefits of a potential transformer with the applications of a distribution transformer. They are used to supply low voltage power directly from a high voltage line up to 550kV. Since they are connected directly to the high-voltage line, this equipment provides a reliable power supply.
A sustainable solution for powering auxiliary services
This solution makes it possible to dispense with the use of generators to power the auxiliary services of an electrical substation, thus avoiding those CO2 emissions into the atmosphere and dependency on fixed infrastructures or costly solutions.
Its ease of transport, installation, and connection wherever our customers need it allows its commissioning in just one day, quickly enabling the auxiliary services of any substation.

Arteche and Elewit collaborate in the valorization of ZEPAS in the market, through an alliance that allows Red Eléctrica and the rest of the companies that make up Redeia to evolve at the pace required by the energy transition in an agile and sustainable way.

ZEPAS units are highly versatile solutions whose use can be extended to a wide range of applications such as the supply of low voltage power to small rural populations where there is a high voltage line nearby, where construction costs and environmental impact prevent the construction of classical substations, and to any other type of application outside substations where a temporary supply of low voltage power is needed, for example to mitigate the effects of natural disasters or in construction sites, provided that these are located in the vicinity of a high voltage transmission line. ZEPAS is a reliable solution, with considerable cost savings and a significant reduction in environmental impact. |
